Final week of Jesus's life - countdown

Sunday

Today Sun is Palm Sunday. It's the day which Jesus makes His trimphant entry into Jerusalem. (Luke 19:28) Jesus was counting down to his final week of life on earth as He knows He will face death very soon with his disciple Judas betraying him and handing him over to the Romans, who subseqently unimonously sent him to crucifixion - death on cross, the most brutal type of death punishment during the Romans time. Yet, Jesus was courageous and He went on to complete his assigned mission - to go to the cross to die for all man's sins, so that man can be reconciled back to God. God hate sins (the sinful acts) but He loves the sinners (i.e. we the people). His love for us is so great that He had to do this for us.

Monday

Luke 19: 45-48 - Cleansing of temple. Jesus spent this day driving out those who are selling and profitting at the holy temple, calling them a den of robbers as these "hawkers" were selling worship items at exorbitant prices, profit-making from devoted worshippers. The temple was meant as a place to worship God but these people were misusing this place, which made Jesus really mad!

Tuesday - Day of teachings

Jesus spent this day teaching in the temple. Mattew 21, 22, 23, 24, 25 - many impt teachings. One of the classic teaching was on The Greatest Commandment - Matt 22: 34 - 39. "Love your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. Love your neighbour as yourself." A simple teaching but to put in practice, it is often very tough. Some of my friends find it very tough to accept why Christians have to love God first, even before their spouses, their parents, etc. To me, the reason is NOT because God is selfish and wants us to love him first only BUT a deeper meaning as all man are inperfect. Even our spouses or parents will fail us or made us disappiointed or even hurt us in many siutations. By learning to love God first, we will be protected and have a source to go to. God is faithful. His love for us is steadfast.

Wed - no records on what Jesus did on this day

Thursday - Passover / Lord's supper

This was the day where Jesus sat down at the table to eat the Passover feast. It was also on this night, Jesus gave clues that one of his disciple was going to betray him. This was also the day where Jesus broke bread and drank from the cup, which Christians today, do this at monthly Holy Communion ceremony to remember Jesus. The 'bread' symbolize Jesus's body, broken for us. The cup, which contain grape juice symbolize Jesus's blood, shed for us, for forgiveness of our sins. I always treasure Holy Communion (HC) very much as during 1 HC 3 years ago, i really experienced God's forgiveness for my sins. From then now, i no longer go through HC as traditional customs but really appreciate the symbolism of this ceremony.

Friday - Good Friday

Ever wondered why it is called "Good Friday"? Is someone's death a good news? I don't think so. Jesus was arrested by the Roman soldiers, his disciple Peter disowned Jesus by denying to know him when Jesus was arrested, the Roman guards mocked Jesus and tore his robe apart...He was given the verdict to be crucified when he did no crime or sins. Although Jesus feels so hurt and sadden, He said in Luke 23:34 "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing". It's simply amazing!

On his journey up to the mountain to be crucified, Jesus had to carry a heavy cross and walked up the mountain. The soldiers also twisted a crown of thorns and set it on his head. (Mattew 27:29). The soldiers then nailed through both palms and legs to fix him to the cross. The sight of this image simply pained my heart. At the last hour, Jesus cried out in a loud voice "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" - Matt 27: 46. Jesus knows very well that if God wants to intervene, God the Father can easily save Jesus from the cross. However, He had to foresake Jesus so that Jesus will die and with his death on the cross, all man's sins of present, past, future will die along with Jesus. Whoever proclaim that they believe in Jesus (i.e. believe in his act of dying for your sins), our sins are forgiven and God will receive us once again as his children. Sounds too good to be true? The logic is just so simple. It is God's grace - the unmerited favour upon us.

My pre-believers friends reading this entry will feel very lost at this moment as i don't know how to express very well in words on this topic but i tried my best to follow the bible and give you an illustration on the occurance on Good Friday. To me, Good friday is only Good, because Jesus has died for our sins and the Good news (also referred as Gospel) is we can now go to Jesus for forgiveness of our bad acts, repent and confess. Having Christ in life just made living easier although it is never a bed of roses as God didnt promise us in that manner. Hope this give you a deeper appreciation of Good Friday public holiday.

Saturday - Day of Sabbath - day of rest for the Jews

Sunday - Easter Sunday - Ressurrection

3 days later, Jesus resurrected! He reappeared to some of his disciples and showed them his nail pierced hands. God has resurrected Jesus, as He has promised. This symbolizes we have a Jesus who overcome the world, the circumstances and in Him, we have the strength to overcome situations, so long you trust in Him! Thank you Lord Jesus for being the glorioius saviour to the fallen world.

Simple & edifying worship song - Lord I offer you my life

A simple song i sang in church service this morning: Lord I offer you my life
All that I am, all that I have

I lay them down before you, oh Lord

All my regrets, all my acclaims

The joy and the pain, I'm making them yours

(Chorus)

Lord, I offer my life to you

Everything I've been through

Use it for your glory

Lord I offer my days to you

Lifting my praise to you

As a pleasing sacrifice

Lord I offer you my life

(Verse 2)

Things in the past, things yet unseen

Wishes and dreams that are yet to come true

All of my heart, all of my praise

My heart and my hands are lifted to you

(Chorus)

Lord, I offer my life to you

Everything I've been through

Use it for your glory

Lord I offer my days to you

Lifting my praise to you

As a pleasing sacrifice

Lord I offer you my life

(Bridge)

What can we give That you have not given?

And what do we have That is not already yours?

All we possess Are these lives we're living

That's what we give to you, Lord

(Chorus)

Lord, I offer my life to you

Everything I've been through

Use it for your glory

Lord I offer my days to you

Lifting my praise to you

As a pleasing sacrifice

Lord I offer you my life
